Machine Directive:
Lifting equipment
This project consisted of the structural calculation of a series of mechanical elements for lifting heavy loads, in accordance with the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC. Specifically, these were the transport platform, the clamping tool and the lifting pulley.
For this purpose, classical calculation techniques were used together with numerical methods (FEA analysis) for those elements with more complex geometry. Both the structural stiffness of the parts under different load conditions and the safety of the fastenings were verified. Also, a redesign of the components was carried out in order to reduce material in the less stressed areas and to reinforce the most critical ones.
Project takeaways:
-
For this type of accesories, the directive applies high safety coefficients, so it is very important to select an adequate dimensioning that meets the safety requirements without oversizing, which could make the project unfeasible due to weight and material cost.
-
Choosing the right calculation method for each location guarantees an optimal analysis in terms of time.
